'narrow your focus. pick a small area indoors or outdoors and inspect it very carefully. use the details you would normally overlook to inspire you.'the one thing i noticed the most - indoors and outdoors - was wood grain. so i took some brown paper bag paper and tried to make a fluid pattern but include the snail aspects.
