day one hundred and thirty two: 353

'goldfinger. work only with gold materials today. try working on a gold surface for a real challenge.'

i'm not a gold fan but my husband really wanted me to use bullets in one of my snails and this is the only prompt i had that i thought fit well. i painted a piece of paper and used some confetti stars along with the bullets. probably not as 'manly' as he was thinking it would look...but i ended up liking it!

day one hundred and thirty one: 187

'use a paper bag to create something new today.'

couldn't think of anything more creative. just used some glue to hold this guy together. i kept wondering if i'd done a prompt or not so i went through my book and marked all of them, i ended up starting this guy after midnight so i rushed a bit. it's still pretty cute.

day one hundred and thirty: 159

'use makeup-yours or borrowed, everyday or costume. you can work on skin, paper, or a nontraditional material.'

it's my one year anniversary today so that means, simple. i personally HATE makeup. i hate the way it feels on my face and i have never found any type of makeup that feels like i'm not wearing any. but, i do have SOME. i made a snail with just eye shadow but it wasn't very bright so i added some lip gloss with a small eye shadow brush. it was a nightmare getting off my hand.

Saturday, May 28, 2011

day one hundred and twenty nine: 310

'work only with items that would be found in a hardware store today.'

i highly recommend you DO NOT try this, hahaha. it was like trying to set up dominos. my aunt gave me this idea and i knew it would work for one of my prompts. i had to find a perfectly flat surface and even my floor has some slants to it. it took me about 45 minutes to get it done after knocking some of the nails down multiple times. i wanted to make the shell bigger but i didn't want to chance it!

Friday, May 27, 2011

day one hundred and twenty eight: 1

'make something that fits in the palm of your hand using only the materials in your immediate environment.'

well, i was cleaning my house and the first thing that popped into my head when i read this prompt was some thin wire i had in my junk drawer. so i swirled it up and bent it into the shape i wanted. i want to try to keep him somewhere, somehow.

Thursday, May 26, 2011

day one hundred and twenty seven: 232

'make a cloud, or make something inspired by clouds.'

i remember making 'clouds' when i was little with cotton balls, so i pulled some apart and made a snail shape. i tried blurring the picture to make it look a little more cloud like but it didn't work out so well. i don't think i have ever seen a snail shape in the clouds but i will be keeping my eye out for one from now on.

day one hundred and twenty six: 100

'make something new out of an old t-shirt. it doesn't have to be wearable when it's done, but if it's done, but if it is, document it while someone has it on!'

i cut up an old t-shirt into strips and rolled some into a swirl, then i wrapped the outside of that with a braided piece to hold it together. i knotted up the bigger pieces i had. i didn't have anything to keep him together with so i will probably either get some craft glue or sew him together so i can keep him! if that doesn't work...i'm sure my dog will like his new toy.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

day one hundred and twenty five: 302

'work only with, or inspired by, boxes or bags from packaged food products today. if you don't have any on hand, get some from a friend.'

i've been collecting these boxes for a few weeks now. i got a fruit snack box from my mom and collected the others. i really wanted to make something more exciting but my mind went totally blank, oh well. i did spend about an hour planning my snails for when my husband and i go to monterey in june. that will keep me going and motivated until then!

Monday, May 23, 2011

day one hundred and twenty four: 89

'work only with bubble wrap or any other packing materials you have on hand.'

this guy turned out a little wonky, haha. his shell is too small, his head is too big and his eyes were too long. i had to prop him up against something to get the pictures. i used a little scotch tape to hold him together. i also discovered my beagle is terrified of popping bubble wrap!

Sunday, May 22, 2011

day one hundred and twenty three: 37

'make something with a stapler. you can staple things together or, heck, just work with the loose staples. even the stapler itself can be transformed.'

today was definitely one of those 'i want to give up' days. another long day on few hours of sleep. i REALLY need to get into the habit of doing these earlier in the day like when i first started. ended up liking this one though even if it's simple. i decided i would post the front and the back.

Saturday, May 21, 2011

day one hundred and twenty two: 73

'work with the gravel, sand or rocks available near your home.'

lucky me, i have a gravel driveway. i had a busy day with a 4.5 hour henna party in the middle of the day, trip to a neighboring town to go to frys and dinner with my husband and then out with some friends to see the new pirates of the caribbean movie. so while i waited for my husband to get ready for the movie i sat downstairs and dug/built this little guy in the driveway. i ended up really like the blue tones in the gravel against the tan color of the dirt.

Friday, May 20, 2011

day one hundred and twenty one: 262

'how now brown cow? work only with brown materials today. try working on a brown surface for a real challenge.'

hemp, glass bottles, pen, ceramic piece, owl, misc metal, doorknob, misc pine cones and other pieces, stuffed dog, frog, incense holder, glass jar, glass mushroom, and chocolate straw. i love brown!

Thursday, May 19, 2011

day one hundred and twenty: 269

'make pie chart, flow chart, venn diagram, or other business graphic in an unexpected way. perhaps it's made out of an odd material, or it diagrams something that's not at all business related.'

i threw my back out today so that means - simple! 365 days of snails to be done, 120 snails done & 245 snails to go! i'm not sure this really makes sense but oh well, haha. it's definitely not business related!

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

day one hundred and nineteen: 135

'make a rubbing by placing paper over rough objects and using charcoal or chalk to pick up the details. gravestones are the classic source for the technique.'

i wasn't sure if i would be able to find enough things that had texture for this prompt but luckily i did. i even used the texture on the bottom of a few shoes. i covered a paper with different textures and then cut out the shape i wanted!

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

day one hundred and eighteen: 250

'narrow your focus. pick a small area indoors or outdoors and inspect it very carefully. use the details you would normally overlook to inspire you.'

the one thing i noticed the most - indoors and outdoors - was wood grain. so i took some brown paper bag paper and tried to make a fluid pattern but include the snail aspects.

Monday, May 16, 2011

day one hundred and seventeen: 278

'create something inspired by a piece of spam e-mail you (or someone you know) has recently received.'

i've had this idea for a while. this was the subject matter of most spam e-mail i've ever gotten. i was going to give this little guy a bigger shell, but i figured a long tail suited the idea better.

Sunday, May 15, 2011

day one hundred and sixteen: 262

'you may have carved a pumpkin before, but what about a turnip, an apple, a bell pepper, or...?'

first of all, have i mentioned how much i LOVE my wax carving tools? one of the best purchases i've ever made. secondly, i made an italian pasta salad for a family dinner tonight so i bought extra zucchini to saute another night for dinner. even though it wasn't hollowed i figured i could still carve it. i kind of regret doing the smaller snail but oh well. also i must confess i started this before midnight but didn't finish it until about 3 minutes after. hahaha, so technically i made my deadline.

Saturday, May 14, 2011

day one hundred and fifteen: 66

'go grocery shopping and pick up something new specifically to work with. extra credit: make the work at the grocery store itself. (remember to buy anything you've radically transformed!)'

well...so much for elaborate. i wasn't feeling it today and i was out grocery shopping and remembered this prompt. a whole grocery store and all i could come up with was mambas! oh well, it's colorful, right? nothing else i bought was super exciting. i have to make some granola so i thought i could use the ingredients for that...but we're low on propane and my husband doesn't want us to use it up since the price per gallon is crazy right now. so i couldn't do that. i didn't want to use up this prompt on something so simple but i gave in.

Friday, May 13, 2011

day one hundred and fourteen: 142

'cut holes in the pages of a magazine or book so that what you reveal beneath creates something new.'

i'm not exactly sure this is what the prompt meant. i tried to find a page that i could cut with a page behind it that fit. so i found this OFF ad and it had some tiles behind it. so i cut out my snail to reveal the texture of the tiles for the snail. i couldn't find another page that i liked more & i am super tired after a loooong, hectic & fun day. i have no plans tomorrow so i'm hoping to do a more elaborate snail.

Thursday, May 12, 2011

day one hundred and thirteen: 219

'create a mosaic using cut paper. snippets of color from magazines are ideal for this.'

i know technically this isn't a mosaic. i just glued a bunch of pictures on a piece of paper and cut them out into the shapes i wanted. there are a few more magazine related prompts so while my kitchen table is covered with them i think i might as well keep going with the theme.

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

day one hundred and twelve: 361

'work with bleach to make something by taking away color.'

i LOVE using bleach pens to draw on shirts. i have a sweatshirt that i wear all the time that i drew a henna-like design all over it. i wanted to make something i would actually wear so i drew a snail and messed up the perfect lines and then splattered more bleach all over it. it started changing color fast so i snapped a picture. i will leave it on a little longer, wash it and post another picture. this is a fun activity for kids too (if they don't squeeze the pen too tight)!

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

day one hundred and eleven: 221

'use a tree (or trees) as your only material or inspiration today.'

so i searched for the biggest flat spot on a tree around my house and this is the biggest i found. i used a flat head screw driver & hammer to carve this out. not as neat as i wanted it but i was getting eaten alive by mosquitos so i gave up!

Monday, May 9, 2011

day one hundred and ten: 185

'yellow magic. work only with yellow materials today. try working on a yellow surface for a real challenge.'

rug, terrible towl (GO STEELERS!), potpourri pieces, ceramic heart, nail polish, whistle, mustard, paint sample, empty honey container, dog treats, m&ms, bead & owl key cover. i really enjoy these color prompts but i don't enjoy putting everything back!

Sunday, May 8, 2011

day one hundred and nine: 342

'create evidence of an event that didn't happen.'

more technical difficulties. i still have no photo editing programs on my laptop so tomorrow i will be posting the picture of today's snail. i originally wanted to cheat and just explain what i did and find a picture on google - making it seem like i did it, but didn't. buuut instead i used some vicks vapor rub and made a snail on my counter so it looks like a snail crawled around in a snail design. it's not silver but it's shiny! pictures coming tomorrow!

Saturday, May 7, 2011

day one hundred and eight: 220

'nothing but blue skies. work only with blue materials today. try working on a blue surface for a real challenge.'

i had some mini cadbury eggs and i really wanted to use them, so i picked out the blue ones and found some more blue items for today's snail. i used to add tags to my posts but i never remember, it would be good for these ones. fish bead, squishy duck, mini cadbury eggs, glass pebble, packing peanuts, owl key cover, soda tab, paint, foam animals, nail polish, plastic snake, beads, carebear, pens, dice, packing tape holder, flash filter, soap, bracelet & vicks vapor rub!

Friday, May 6, 2011

day one hundred and seven: 322

'make alternate signage or images for men's and women's bathroom doors. bonus: convince someone to use them!'

well, i have no idea who i could ask to put these up so i just drew out what i thought they'd look like. i cut out the shape so it would be the same and traced them. i was going to leave the women's side alone but decided to add some eye lashes. maybe i will stick some up at home just for fun!

Thursday, May 5, 2011

day one hundred and six: 32

'make something ephemeral. can you create something using a material that will dissipate quickly, like soap bubbles, smoke, butter on a griddle, or cream in coffee?'

my aunt is currently selling scentsy and she got me one, i ordered the cocoa clementine fragrance. i carved a snail into the wax and then turned it on. unfortunately my photoshop trial ended so i have to get my husband to fix that tomorrow. i'm too lazy to try some other program to put all the images together. i will get it done tomorrow. it didn't melt super fast, but it melted. i originally wanted to make a 3D snail, maybe i will just do it for the heck of it tomorrow.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

day one hundred and five: 247

'hide and seek. make something that someone else has to find. provide a map or clues to lead seekers to the location where it's hidden.'

a few years ago i discovered an activity called geocaching & i've been hooked since. i thought this prompt was perfect for this activity. i've hid a geocache before and wanted to do another so i put together a container, added some goodies including 2 snail like seashells and a geocoin that my brother found called a travel slug. i named the geocache "a snail without a shell is just a slug" because the coin says slug but it has a shell so i was telling my brother it had to be a snail! if you don't know what geocaching is, visit the website www.geocaching.com and check out the video (link in upper right hand corner of blue box). and if you ever visit auburn, california...here are the coordinates to my cache!
N 38 degrees 51.646
W 121 degrees 05.820

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

day one hundred and four: 179

'grow it. use seeds to make something. you could plant them in a shape and document them growing, use the seeds themselves to make an image, or...?'

well obviously i'm going to plant them in a shape...of a snail! my mom has done this before around easter in baskets. i used wheat berries i found at the local grocery store. i covered them up with a little soil and i'm hoping i didn't move any too much. i will post some updates soon. i have other photos i need to post too so i guess i will have an 'update' post coming soon. i guess if some moved i can just pull the random and misplaced grass strands.

Monday, May 2, 2011

day one hundred and three: 114

'make something out of toast or bread. you can even make your bread from scratch; recipes are easy to find online or at the library.'

croissants count as bread, right? i love them. i've had these in my fridge for a while so i thought i'd use them up. i've thought before that i would use only food for my next year long project because you can make sooo many different things with food. oh and by the way, thanks for the all the get well soon's...i actually slept in bed last night for the first time in a week...versus sleeping sitting up on the couch. hallelujah!

Sunday, May 1, 2011

day one hundred and two: 174

'work only with kitchen tools today.'

so as i've said, i have been sick lately. i have this nagging cough that attacks me during the day and it keeps me up all night. i have slept on the couch for a week so i can sit up. i have wanted to clean my house for 3 days now but if i start doing anything i cough like crazy. so tonight, instead of cleaning the kitchen...i just used the stuff in it. i like the colors, but that's about it! i hope i can get SOMETHING done tomorrow after work!
